Specialty Care
Pediatric Specialty Care
Bringing pediatric care to more communities, so more children can thrive.
The UMMC Center for Telehealth and Children’s of Mississippi make it possible for primary care providers to offer specialized pediatric services in areas where it isn’t available locally. Children’s of Mississippi is part of the University of Mississippi Medical Center and offers the state’s only pediatric ICU, Level IV NICU, children’s ER, pediatric congenital heart program, transplant program, and cancer program, among others.
Telehealth is personal healthcare delivered through technology. Using interactive, online video tools, UMMC care teams can assess and treat patients and consult with caregivers in other locations. All in real time.
UMMC Telehealth is an effective way to:
- Give kids care closer to home and family
- Improve access to care and reduce healthcare disparities in underserved communities
- Offer pediatric specialty care in your own local facility
- Diagnose and treat childhood health issues sooner
- Establish a continuum of care for the state’s youngest residents
TELEHEALTH IN ACTION: HELPING CATCH LEARNING DELAYS SOONER
Two-year old Alicia doesn’t talk nearly as much as other kids in her daycare class. Her daycare provider is concerned and tells Alicia’s parents. Together, they consult with an early interventionist from Children’s of Mississippi to assess Alicia right in her daycare. Through a live, two-way video link, the specialist conducts a developmental screening. The specialist determines that Alicia has delays in speech and language and in fine motor skills and recommends Alicia receive speech and occupational therapy. Because her delays were caught early through telehealth, Alicia is now making great progress.
Pediatric services available through UMMC Telehealth include:
- Cardiology
- Child development
